Landon William Kaline is a 2009-born American left back currently developing at Barça Residency Academy. A right-footed left back/wingback, Landon combines technical reliability, tactical awareness, and the ability to play forward from wide areas. His development pathway blends elite U.S. youth competition with extensive European training and high-level MLS NEXT exposure.
Raised in Annapolis, Maryland, Landon began his competitive pathway in EDP Division 1 on a highly ranked team, where he was captain and played offense, contributed goals and assists while developing a strong work rate and attacking confidence. His performances helped earn invitations to international competition, including Surf Cup International Salou (Spain), providing early exposure to elite opposition.
In March 2024, at age 14, Landon relocated to Spain for full-time training in a high-performance environment. Immersed in Spanish methodology, he strengthened his technical precision, first-touch quality, positional understanding, and decision-making speed.
During his time in Europe, Landon competed in top youth tournaments including the MIC (Mediterranean International Cup) in 2024 & 2025 and Surf Cup Salou in 2024 & 2025, facing elite European academies. He recorded notable contributions, including assists against Arsenal and an ssist and goal against Villarreal CF academy sides. In April 2025, , he earned a trial with CF La Nucía and was offered a place on the club’s Juvenil team, an uncommon achievement for an American player entering Spain’s federated youth system. He returned to the United States for family reasons, but his time in Spain remains a defining phase of his development.
While abroad, Landon represented the United States with ODP Europe, competing in international tournaments in Italy and Germany. Following his return to the U.S., his performances in Europe earned him an invitation to trial for the highly selective ODP South Region Team, where he secured a roster position. He is currently on the pathway toward ODP National Team evaluation, with national trials scheduled for January 2026.
After returning from Spain, Landon earned an invitation to trial at Barça Residency Academy USA, the nation’s only full-time residential academy aligned with FC Barcelona’s development methodology. Selected from a large national trial pool, he now competes at the U17 level in MLS NEXT Academy Division, continuing his development in a possession-based, high-accountability environment.
Landon profiles as a modern attacking left back. He is comfortable building play under pressure, progressing the ball from wide areas, and recognizing moments to play forward with intent. Defensively, he is reliable in recovery moments, effective in 1v1 situations, and trusted to balance ambition with collective structure. His background in Spain has strengthened his composure, spatial awareness, and ability to combine efficiently in tight areas.
Landon continues to focus on his development as a left back through MLS NEXT competition, ODP National Team evaluation, and progression toward the professional game. His long-term objective is to compete at the highest levels in the U.S. or abroad.
